Exclusive Community Living in Fort Myers
Fort Myers is one of the most sought-after places to live for its enviable combination of warm weather, ocean breezes and easy-going lifestyle. Whether for year-round living or winter escapes, this Gulf Coast town has so much to offer for those looking for resort-style living in the Sunshine State.
Popular for its beaches, fishing, golfing and shopping, Fort Myers offers the ultimate in convenience, with easy access to many of Florida's major cities through I-75, US41 and Alligator Alley. From its central location, Miami and Tampa are just two-and-a-half hours away, while all the attractions of Orlando are just three-and-a-half hours away. In the Southwest Florida area surrounding Fort Myers, there are 1,549 holes of golf on 95 courses including 47 public courses and semi-private courses.
Beaches, parks and recreation are bountiful in and around Fort Myers. Sanibel and Captiva Islands are world famous for their miles of pristine beaches and amazing shelling. Those residents and visitors that stroll the beaches are recognized by their posture, the "Sanibel Stoop." You'll even find people with miner-style headlights, to help them in their before dawn searches for the best specimens of the more than 400 varieties of shells that wash up on the beaches.
Naturalists will want to make sure to visit J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge, at Sanibel's northern tip. Home to many exotic species of birds and plants, the refuge takes up more than two-thirds of the island. Within the park, there are walking and canoe/kayak trails with plenty of opportunities to see long-legged wading birds, raccoons, alligators and other critters in their natural habitat.
Fort Myers itself has its own collection of parks and beaches, including the Lovers Key State park, located between Fort Myers Beach and Bonita Beach. Appropriately named, this romantic state park has two-and-a-half miles of miles of soft white sand beaches, world-class shelling, swimming, bridge and backbay fishing, plus canoe and kayak explorations through miles of waterways. There's even a turn-of-the-century pavilion for storybook weddings. Another escape to nature is the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve, a 2,000-acre wetland ecosystem on a mile-long boardwalk trail.
Two of the most popular attractions in Fort Myers are the winter homes of inventor Thomas Edison, and the automobile manufacturer Henry Ford. Today visitors daily tour their neighboring estates with Edison's botanical gardens, laboratory and museum.
Fort Myers, known as the "City of Palms" has a charming downtown historic district, plus the convenience of many neighborhood shopping mall, restaurants and entertainment options. Throughout these neighborhoods, you'll find a wonderful selection of resort-style living communities. Many are gated enclaves that offer security and safety plus the added bonus of sparkling swimming pools, state-of-the-art fitness centers, pubs, bistros, movie theaters and many resort-style living amenities. Designed for the carefree, Southwest Florida lifestyle, many communities have amenity centers that you can often walk or bike to. In addition, the residences are created with maintenance-free living in mind, and you'll find choices that include flat, townhomes, casitas and villas, plus single-family homes for growing families.
